If you already own Ridgid® 18V tools, you have everything you need to power a Train Horn Drill right out of the box. Our portable train horn drills are designed to accept the same 18V slide-in battery packs used across the Ridgid® 18V platform, so there is no new charger to buy and no learning curve. Browse this page to find the right loudness tier for your situation and get clear guidance on which battery sizes work best.
The Ridgid® 18V battery platform has been in continuous development for years, which means the ecosystem is mature, widely stocked, and well understood. Batteries, chargers, and starter kits are available at major home improvement retailers across the United States, so sourcing a spare pack or a replacement is straightforward for most people.
Because the system has been around for a long time, there is a wide range of pack sizes on the market — from compact 1.5 Ah packs suited for light intermittent use all the way up to high-capacity 6 Ah and larger packs built for demanding applications. That variety makes it easy to match battery capacity to how you actually plan to use your train horn drill, whether that is occasional trail riding, regular job-site use, or events where you expect to trigger the horn frequently.
The slot-in design also means the battery seats firmly, makes solid electrical contact, and releases cleanly — the same reliability you expect from your cordless tools. Many households that already own Ridgid® 18V drills, saws, or impact drivers can start using a Train Horn Drill the same day it arrives, without purchasing any additional power equipment.
Our train horn drills accept standard Ridgid® 18V slide-in battery packs. No adapter is required. Here is a general guide to choosing the right capacity tier:
As a general rule, a larger Ah pack will not damage the horn — it simply means more available energy between charges. Choose the size that matches your typical session length and how often you plan to blast.
Dual Trumpets — 130 dB: A strong, attention-getting horn for everyday recreational use, trails, and light signaling. Shop Dual Trumpet horns.
Quad Trumpets — 140 dB: Noticeably louder with a fuller, multi-horn sound character — a popular choice for off-road vehicles, boats, and anyone who wants to be clearly heard at a distance. Shop Quad Trumpet horns.
Extreme Series — 150 dB: Built for maximum impact in loud environments — large events, safety signaling on work sites, or anywhere a horn needs to cut through ambient noise without question. Shop Extreme Series horns.
Boss Series — 150+ dB: The top of our lineup, engineered for users who want the most powerful portable train horn we make. If volume is the primary requirement, this is your tier. Shop Boss Series horns.
Yes. Starter kit batteries are typically compact packs in the 1.5–2 Ah range. They will power the horn, but because they carry less energy they will need to be recharged more frequently than a larger pack if you plan to use the horn often. For occasional or light use, a starter kit battery is perfectly adequate.
In most cases, yes. The 18V slide-in interface has remained broadly consistent across generations of the Ridgid® platform. If your pack slides into a current Ridgid® 18V tool without an adapter, it should work in our horn drill as well. If you have a very old or non-standard pack, test the fit before committing to a purchase.
Any 18V battery that physically fits the standard Ridgid® 18V slot and delivers stable 18V power should work. We do not endorse specific third-party brands, but the horn itself simply needs a compatible 18V input. Make sure any aftermarket pack is well-reviewed for consistent voltage delivery, as poorly regulated packs can underperform.
Train horn drills draw current in bursts when triggered rather than continuously. A single blast is brief, so a reasonably sized pack — 3 Ah or larger — will typically handle a long outing of normal use. Sustained or very frequent triggering will draw more energy. If you expect heavy use, bring a spare pack or step up to a higher Ah tier.
No. Our train horn drills are sold as tool-only units, meaning the battery and charger are not included. This keeps the price lower for the large number of customers who already own Ridgid® 18V batteries and chargers. If you need a battery, pick one up alongside your order at any retailer that carries Ridgid® 18V accessories.
Our Ridgid®-compatible horn drills are designed specifically for 18V input. Packs from other voltage platforms will not fit or operate correctly. Stick with genuine Ridgid® 18V packs or verified 18V-compatible aftermarket packs for safe, reliable operation.
