If you already own Milwaukee® M18™ batteries, you're a few seconds away from a fully powered portable train horn. Train Horn Drill builds battery-powered train horns that accept the same 18V slide-in packs you use on your Milwaukee® M18™ tools — no adapters, no separate charging systems. Pick your loudness tier, slot in a pack you already own, and you're ready to go.
The M18™ system has been on the market long enough that millions of tradespeople, contractors, and serious DIYers already own multiple batteries and at least one charger. That kind of platform maturity matters when you're adding a new device to your lineup — you're not committing to a separate ecosystem.
M18™ packs are widely available at hardware stores across the country, which means replacements and spares are easy to source. The slide-in tower design is straightforward: drop the pack in, hear the click, and you're running. There's nothing to configure.
Because so many M18™ users already own a range of Ah sizes — from compact 1.5–2 Ah packs kept in a tool bag to larger 6–9 Ah packs left on a worksite — our train horn drills are useful right out of the box for most M18™ households. You don't need to buy anything extra to get started. That's a practical reason why a Milwaukee® M18™-compatible train horn is a natural fit for anyone already invested in the platform.
Our train horn drills are compatible with genuine Milwaukee® M18™ 18V battery packs as well as third-party batteries built to the M18™ form factor. Here's a general guide to what different capacity ranges are suited for:
Dual Trumpets — 130 dB: A strong, attention-getting horn well suited for farms, job sites, and recreational vehicles where you need to be heard without going overboard. Shop the Milwaukee Dual Train Horn →
Quad Trumpets — 140 dB: Four horns deliver a fuller, deeper sound that carries farther — a good match for large properties, boats, or anyone who needs real presence. Shop the Milwaukee Quad Train Horn →
5-Trumpet: Five trumpets for an even richer, layered chord when four isn't enough. Shop the Milwaukee 5-Trumpet Train Horn →
Extreme Series — 150 dB: Serious output for serious applications — emergency signaling, large-scale events, or anywhere that demands the horn be unmistakably heard at distance. Shop the Milwaukee Extreme Series →
Boss Series — 150+ dB: Our loudest configuration, built for users who won't accept anything less than maximum sound output. If you're asking "how loud can it get," this is the answer. Shop the Milwaukee Boss Series →

Yes. Starter kit packs — typically in the 1.5–2 Ah range — are compatible with our train horn drills. They'll power the horn without issue. Keep in mind that smaller Ah packs have less total capacity, so if you plan on using the horn frequently or for extended periods, a higher Ah pack from the same M18™ lineup will give you more runway.
Our train horn drills are designed to accept the standard M18™ 18V battery interface. Most M18™ packs — across multiple generations — use the same slide-in tower format. If your pack fits the M18™ form factor and delivers 18V, it should be compatible. If you have questions about a specific generation, contact us before purchasing.
Third-party batteries built to the M18™ 18V form factor generally work. Performance can vary depending on the quality of the third-party pack — particularly under high-current draw — so results may differ from genuine Milwaukee® packs. We recommend using quality batteries to get the best and most consistent performance from your train horn drill.
Train horns draw current in bursts rather than continuously. Typical signaling use — short, deliberate activations — is not unusually hard on a battery. A 3–5 Ah or larger pack handles normal use comfortably. If you're running extended blasts repeatedly, a higher Ah pack is the right choice. Compact packs will deplete faster under heavy use.
No. Our train horn drills are sold as tool-only units. The battery is not included. This keeps the price lower for the large portion of our customers who already own M18™ packs, and it lets you choose the Ah size that fits your actual use case rather than receiving a pack you might not want.
No special steps are required. The M18™ battery slides into the receiver on the unit the same way it does on any M18™ tool. Align, push, click — it's ready. Removal works the same way. No tools, no adapters, and no configuration needed.
