Fault 1: A Stuck Trigger or Push Button
Every horn trigger is a momentary switch — it should spring back and break the circuit the instant you let go. When it doesn't, the horn behaves exactly as if you were still holding the button down. Common causes:
- Grit and gunk. Mud, dust, or a spilled drink can jam the plunger so it stays partially depressed. Work the button rapidly a dozen times; if the horn cuts in and out, the switch is your problem. Clean it or replace it — momentary switches cost a few dollars.
- Chafed wiring. On ground-switched circuits, the button works by connecting the signal wire to ground. Any spot where that wire has rubbed through its insulation against the body or frame does the same job as a pressed button. Fault 2: Welded Relay Contacts
A relay is a small electromagnetic switch: the button energizes a coil, the coil pulls two contacts together, and the contacts pass the heavy current the horn actually draws. Eventually the pitted surfaces can stick — mechanics call it a welded or stuck relay — and the horn stays energized even after you release the button.

- A stuck or pressed transmitter button. Fault 4: The Stuck Solenoid (12V Air Kits Only)
On compressor-and-tank air systems, an electric solenoid valve releases tank air to the trumpets. Debris or corrosion on the valve seat can hold that valve open, and the horn drones until the tank runs dry — even with all power disconnected, because the air, not the electricity, makes the sound at that point. Can someone else's remote set off my horn?
Practically, no. Learning-code receivers respond only to transmitters that have been paired to them, so a stranger's garage or gate remote on the same 433 MHz band won't fire your horn. Why does my horn sound until I press the remote a second time?
