If you already own Kobalt® 24V MAX tools, you're closer to a full-strength portable train horn than you might think. Train Horn Drill builds horn kits that slot directly onto the same 24V MAX battery platform you're already using in the garage or on the job site. No generator, no compressor tank, no permanent installation — just your battery, our horn, and a genuinely loud signal wherever you need it.
The Kobalt® 24V MAX platform has become one of the more widely adopted cordless systems sold through Lowe's stores nationwide. That broad retail footprint means a lot of households and tradespeople already have at least one 24V MAX battery sitting on a charger. Pairing one of those packs with a Train Horn Drill unit is a practical choice rather than an expensive one — you're not buying into a new ecosystem, just adding a new use for hardware you already own.
The 24V MAX system spans a solid range of amp-hour options, from compact 1.5 Ah packs intended for light tasks all the way up to high-capacity packs suited for sustained heavy use. That range matters for a portable train horn because your loudness tier and typical usage pattern will naturally point you toward a certain Ah class. Occasional short blasts at a worksite or on a vehicle need less capacity than continuous signaling in a marine or emergency-response context.
From a mechanical standpoint, the 24V MAX battery interface is a straightforward slide-and-click design, which is exactly what our mounting adapters are engineered around. There's no wiring, no adapter board to configure, and no tools required to attach or remove the pack. You can swap batteries mid-day the same way you would on any other 24V MAX tool.
Train Horn Drill units are compatible with genuine Kobalt® 24V MAX batteries as well as third-party packs built to the same 24V MAX form factor. Runtime depends on the amp-hour capacity of the pack you use and how frequently you sound the horn. Use the guide below as a general starting point.
Dual Trumpets — 130 dB: A strong, clear signal for personal vehicles, ATVs, and light recreational use where you want to be heard without overwhelming a small space. Shop Dual Trumpets.
Quad Trumpets — 140 dB: Noticeably louder and fuller in tone, well suited for trucks, boats, and worksites where ambient noise competes with your signal. Shop Quad Trumpets.
Extreme Series — 150 dB: Serious output for situations where you need an unmistakable warning — large agricultural equipment, event perimeters, or anywhere a horn needs to cut through significant background noise. Shop Extreme Series.
Boss Series — 150+ dB: Our highest-output line, built for users who require maximum acoustic force. Best matched with a 6 Ah or larger pack for sustained performance. Shop Boss Series.
Yes, provided it is a genuine Kobalt® 24V MAX battery. Starter-kit packs are typically in the 1.5–2 Ah range, which will power our horn for casual, short-burst use. If you plan to use the horn frequently or over extended periods, a higher-capacity 24V MAX pack from the same system will serve you better.
In general, packs across generations of the 24V MAX platform share the same physical interface and voltage, so compatibility is typically consistent. If you have an older pack and notice any fitment variation, feel free to contact our support team before purchasing. We do not guarantee compatibility with any battery that deviates from the standard 24V MAX form factor.
Many aftermarket 24V MAX-compatible packs will physically fit and function with our units. However, Train Horn Drill cannot guarantee performance or safety with batteries we have not tested. If you choose a third-party pack, verify it meets the voltage specification and uses the correct slide interface. We recommend genuine Kobalt® packs for the most predictable experience.
Train horns draw a meaningful current burst during each activation, but individual blasts are brief. A 3–5 Ah pack handles typical recreational use comfortably. Drain rate becomes a factor only if you're sounding the horn very frequently or continuously. Higher Ah packs provide more headroom for demanding use patterns without noticeably impacting the weight of most 24V MAX packs.
No. Train Horn Drill sells the horn unit and mounting hardware only. Batteries are not included. This keeps the price lean for users who already own 24V MAX packs, which is the majority of our Kobalt® customers. If you need a battery, Kobalt® 24V MAX packs are widely available at Lowe's locations and online.
Setup is straightforward. Our adapter is engineered to match the Kobalt® 24V MAX slide interface, so you click the pack in the same way you would on any compatible tool. No wiring, no modifications, and no special tools required. Most users have the unit operational within a few minutes of opening the box.
