If you already own Hercules® 20V tools from Harbor Freight, you have everything you need to power one of our portable battery-powered train horn drills. Slide in the pack you already own, press the trigger, and get a genuine train-horn blast wherever you need it — no compressor, no cords, no setup hassle. This page covers compatibility, runtime guidance, loudness tiers, and common questions so you can choose the right horn with confidence.
The Hercules® 20V battery platform has grown into one of the most capable value-tier cordless systems in the US market. Harbor Freight has steadily expanded the lineup, so finding a replacement or spare pack is straightforward whether you shop in-store or online. That widespread availability matters when you want a horn you can actually keep charged and ready.
The 20V system spans a practical range of amp-hour capacities — from compact 1.5 Ah packs suited for light use up to high-output 6 Ah and larger packs built for sustained draw. Because our train horn drills are engineered to accept the same battery form factor used across the Hercules® 20V tool lineup, there is no adapter, no modification, and no guesswork. The pack clicks in the same way it would on a drill or circular saw.
For many buyers, this is the biggest practical advantage: if you already own Hercules® 20V batteries, your startup cost is lower. You are not buying into a second battery ecosystem — you are extending one you already trust. And because the platform is sold at hundreds of Harbor Freight locations nationwide, adding capacity later is simple.
Our horn drills accept any Hercules® 20V battery pack. Runtime varies with amp-hour capacity and how frequently you sound the horn. Here is a general guide:
No specific battery model numbers are required — if it is a genuine Hercules® 20V pack, it is compatible.
Dual Trumpets — 130 dB: A strong, clear horn suited for trail riding, cycling, and everyday personal safety. Shop Dual Trumpets.
Quad Trumpets — 140 dB: Noticeably louder, with a fuller tone that cuts through traffic noise and crowded environments. Shop Quad Trumpets.
Extreme Series — 150 dB: Built for off-road vehicles, UTVs, and work sites where you need serious sound projection across open terrain. Shop Extreme Series.
Boss Series — 150+ dB: Our loudest horns, designed for maximum range and impact — events, large properties, and anywhere a standard horn simply is not enough. Shop Boss Series.
Yes. Any genuine Hercules® 20V battery pack — including the one bundled in a starter kit — is compatible with our horn drills. The battery slides into the same slot used on standard 20V tools. Starter kit packs are typically in the 1.5–2 Ah range, which is sufficient for regular use but may require more frequent charging during heavy use.
Our horn drills are designed around the standard Hercules® 20V battery interface. As long as the pack uses that interface and is in good working condition, it should function correctly. If you are unsure whether a specific pack generation is compatible, try a test fit — the pack should seat and latch firmly with no forcing required.
Third-party packs that use the same 20V interface will generally work electrically, but we cannot guarantee performance or safety with non-genuine packs. We recommend genuine Hercules® 20V batteries for the most reliable results. Using a third-party pack does not void our product warranty, but any damage caused by a faulty third-party battery would not be covered.
Train horns draw a meaningful burst of current when triggered, but each blast is brief. With a 3 Ah or larger pack, most users find they can sound the horn many times in a single outing before the charge runs low. Smaller packs will deplete faster under heavy use. If you plan to use the horn frequently throughout a long day, a higher Ah pack is the practical choice.
No. Our train horn drills are sold as tool-only units — battery not included. This keeps the price lower for the many customers who already own Hercules® 20V packs and do not need another one. If you need a battery, any Hercules® 20V pack purchased separately will work.
No special charger is required. Charge your Hercules® 20V pack with the same charger you use for your other 20V tools. Our horn drill does not include or require its own charging equipment.
Our train horn drills are compatible with several popular 20V and 18V battery platforms. If you use a different system, we likely have a collection for you:
