Will it fit my FLEX 24V packs? (Short answer: yes, all of them)
FLEX is the pro-grade cordless platform Chervon builds exclusively for Lowe's. It launched in spring 2021 with a multi-year rollout plan of more than 100 platform-compatible tools, and everything in the line rides the same 24V battery foot — which means anything else built for that foot, our train horn included, runs on the packs you already own.
The platform has two battery families, and this is where FLEX owners sometimes worry about fit:
- Standard lithium-ion packs — built on cylindrical cells, sold in capacities from 2.5 Ah (FX0111-1) up through 5.0 Ah, 8.0 Ah, and a big 12.0 Ah pack.
- Stacked Lithium packs — FLEX's pouch-cell line, sold in 2.0 Ah, 3.5 Ah, 6.0 Ah, and 10.0 Ah capacities.
The good news: it doesn't matter which family you own. FLEX states that Stacked Lithium batteries are 100% cross-compatible with all FLEX 24V tools and chargers, and both families ride the identical slide-mount foot. A horn built for the FLEX 24V battery is just one more tool on that foot — every pack you own slides straight on. The bigger packs simply buy you more blasts per charge.
Stacked Lithium, explained — and why a horn cares
Most cordless batteries are bundles of cylindrical cells — the familiar 18650s and 21700s. Pouch-cell packs stack flat lithium layers instead, which packs more energy into the same footprint and moves heat out faster. DeWalt® shipped the industry's first pouch-cell power-tool battery, and FLEX followed in 2022 with its Stacked Lithium line, pushing the format to far larger capacities.
FLEX's own claims for Stacked Lithium are aggressive: up to 200% more power than its standard packs, up to 300% longer battery lifetime, and 100% faster charging — a full charge in as little as 20 minutes — helped along by the company's THERMA-TECH™+ cooling. The energy numbers back up the capacity story: the 6.0 Ah stacked pack carries 144 Wh, and the 10.0 Ah carries 240 Wh, which is a lot of stored honk.
Why does a train horn care? Because a horn's compressor is a surge load — it pulls a hard slug of current the instant you hit the remote, then tapers as trumpet pressure builds. High-output cells that deliver current without sagging are exactly what that load wants. You don't need a Stacked Lithium pack to run the horn, but if you own one, it's the pack the horn will feel best on.
What the “24V” on the label actually means
FLEX gets to its number honestly, but it's still marketing math. A FLEX 24V pack wires six lithium cells in series instead of the five that 18V and 20V MAX™ platforms use. At 3.6V nominal per cell that's a 21.6V nominal pack, which reads 24V only at peak, fresh off the charger. It's the same six-cell arithmetic the other Lowe's house platform, Kobalt® 24V, uses.
The practical upshot: a FLEX pack sits one cell higher on nominal voltage than the 18V-nominal heavyweight platforms. That doesn't make the horn louder — loudness is set by the trumpets and compressor design, so a Quad on a FLEX pack is as loud as a Quad on anything else. What the extra cell gives you is headroom: a steady, strong push for the compressor motor on a long lean-on-the-button blast. How loud is the FLEX-compatible model?
Battery train horns sort into decibel tiers by trumpet count. For the FLEX 24V platform we build the Quad tier — four trumpets, rated around 140 dB. Here's the ladder:
- Dual (around 130 dB) — two trumpets; plenty for a truck, boat, or UTV at close-to-medium range.
- Quad (around 140 dB) — four trumpets, a fuller chord and more reach. This is the FLEX-compatible tier.
- Extreme and Boss Series (150 dB+) — upgraded trumpets tuned deeper and louder, offered on other battery platforms.
Treat 140 dB with respect. Decibels are logarithmic, so 130 to 140 is a much bigger jump in sound energy than the numbers suggest, and OSHA's occupational noise guidance holds that impulse noise should stay under a 140 dB peak — right around the threshold of pain. Fire it outdoors, keep people away from the trumpet mouths, and use the wireless remote to put distance between you and the blast.
Runtime: what your packs actually deliver
A train horn isn't a steady drain like a work light. Each blast is a short compressor surge, so runtime is better measured in honks per charge than minutes, and two things drive it: amp-hours and how well the cells handle the surge.
Capacity is the easy part — more amp-hours, more blasts. A 2.5 Ah standard pack or 2.0 Ah stacked pack keeps the whole rig light and is fine for occasional use; a 6.0 Ah or 10.0 Ah Stacked Lithium pack, or an 8.0 Ah or 12.0 Ah standard pack, gives you far more honks between charges and is the better pick if the horn lives on a work truck, a boat, or the farm. The surge is the part people forget: packs that hold voltage under a hard load build trumpet pressure a touch faster and won't sag on a sustained blast — which is exactly the behavior FLEX's high-output stacked cells are built for. None of this is unique to this platform; it's how every battery horn behaves. The battery you already own is almost certainly enough.
The Lowe's angle: warranty and the other 24V platform
Two things worth knowing if you bought into FLEX at Lowe's. First, warranty: FLEX backs tools, batteries, and chargers with a 5-year limited warranty when you register within 30 days of purchase. That coverage rides with your packs no matter what tool — or horn — they're powering.
Second, don't confuse the two blue-adjacent house platforms on Lowe's shelves. FLEX 24V and Kobalt 24V MAX are completely separate systems with different battery feet — a pack from one will not ride the other's rail, so buy the horn that matches the platform you actually own. Do Stacked Lithium packs work, or only the standard round-cell packs?
Both. FLEX states Stacked Lithium batteries are 100% cross-compatible with all FLEX 24V tools and chargers, and the horn rides the same foot as every other tool in the line. Standard 2.5–12.0 Ah packs and stacked 2.0–10.0 Ah packs all fit.
Does the horn come with a battery and charger?
No — and that's the point. The horn is priced without a pack because the platform's whole appeal is sharing the batteries and charger you already own. Slide on any FLEX 24V pack and it's ready.
Will my FLEX packs make the horn louder than other brands' packs?
No. Loudness comes from the trumpet and compressor design, so a Quad is roughly 140 dB on any platform. The higher nominal voltage and high-output stacked cells help the compressor build pressure quickly and hold steady on long blasts — a consistency benefit, not a decibel one.
Can I run this horn on a different brand's battery with an adapter?

Which pack size should I dedicate to the horn?
If the horn stays light-duty — tailgates, the boat, occasional use — a 2.0 or 2.5 Ah pack keeps it compact and grab-and-go.
