The packs you'll actually find on the shelf come in a handful of capacities: the compact 2.0 Ah (model CMCB202), the mid-size 4.0 Ah (CMCB204), and the 6.0 Ah (CMCB206), which carries a 3-year limited warranty.

The important part: every V20 battery rides on the same slide-on foot with identical rails and terminals, and Craftsman states the packs are interchangeable across the entire V20 tool and charger lineup. Craftsman writes the platform name as “V20*” — and the asterisk is doing real work. The fine print says 20 volts is the maximum initial voltage, measured fresh off the charger with no load. One Warning: V20 Is Not the Old Craftsman Battery

Here's where V20 buyers get burned. Craftsman has had several battery systems over the decades, and they don't mix. Stanley Black & Decker bought the Craftsman brand from Sears in 2017 in a deal worth roughly $900 million, then relaunched it in September 2018 with over 1,200 new products sold through Lowe's, Ace Hardware, and other retailers. The V20 platform introduced in that relaunch replaced the old Sears-era 19.2V C3 system entirely.

So if your batteries are the older 19.2V C3 style — the chunky packs from the Sears years — they will not fit a V20 tool or a V20-compatible horn. Aftermarket adapters exist, but they mostly run in the other direction (putting a new V20 pack on an old C3 tool). And despite sharing a parent company, V20 packs are also not interchangeable with BLACK+DECKER® 20V MAX or Porter-Cable® 20V batteries — the rails and keying are different, so they physically won't seat without an aftermarket adapter. Check the label on your battery before ordering: if it says “V20,” you're in the right place. If your packs are actually a different brand, we build the same horns for those feet too.

FAQ

Will my old Craftsman 19.2V C3 batteries work?

No. The 19.2V C3 system is the discontinued Sears-era platform, and its packs use a completely different mount. V20-compatible horns take V20 slide packs only. If C3 packs are all you own, the horn's kit option with a battery included is the cleaner fix — adapters for this direction are not a standard item.

Do BLACK+DECKER or Porter-Cable 20V batteries fit a V20-compatible horn?

Not directly. Even though all three brands live under Stanley Black & Decker, the packs use different rails and keying and won't seat on a V20 foot. Does a bigger battery make the horn louder?
